Mom & Tots Halloween playdate

On Monday October 18th the Moms and Tots group met at the Ticola home to celebrate Halloween with a costume playdate. The kiddos played for a while, and the moms enjoyed our much-needed adult interaction :). Then we all headed upstairs to enjoy the festive cuisine which ranged from zombie eyes to mummy dogs. All which were very ghoulishly good. Liam the pirate won for "Coolist Costume", and Melissa's mummy dogs won for "Best Dish". Thank you to Laura Graham for taking the photos of our little monsters.

In August Sarah hosted Bunco and we actually played!!! Mary was the "biggest loser" and won her $5 back. Sarah and Areta split the pot for the most wins. It was a great night an we are all looking forward to playing again in October!

Friday night a few of us went to Art on the Rocks at the Birmingham Museum of Art. This was probably the BEST people watching place ever! We had a great time and enjoyed wonderful food and drinks. Be on the lookout for us in the upcoming All Around Town magazine! I think we might also go again on August 13th or September 10th if anyone wants to join us!

Eight of us went to Sips N Strokes to create wonderful masterpieces that might actually hang in our houses (or garage)! We had so much fun sipping, stroking and eating chocolate chip cookies! The picture we painted was called "poppies" and it was actually pretty hard but I think they all turned out great!

Last night we had our Dirty Santa gift exchange party at Emily Decker's house. The party was so much fun- great friends, food, drinks, and gifts! Santa's Visit!

Last Saturday we gathered at the McLarty house for a Mom's & Tot's and Oh Baby! Christmas Party! Everyone had such a good time decorating sugar cookies, eating, and seeing Santa! Well, some enjoyed seeing Santa...others did not. :) We owe a big "Thank You" to Areta's husband, Allen, for playing the part of Santa Claus! He was such a trooper! Thank you Allen!!! It's party time!

JCRMA Halloween Party

On Sunday, October 25, mom's and dad's brought their little ones to Homewood Park for a fun Halloween Party! All of the kiddos came dressed up as ladybugs, pumpkins, a turkey, a tiger, a train conductor, a poodle, a ballerina...and list goes on. They were all so cute and had such a great time!

A big thanks to the Mountain Brook Fire Department for our wonderful tour of their station for our Moms and Tots September event. It was a blast!

First we heard about their schedules and toured the inside of the house. Then they pulled the trucks outside and the kids got to climb all around!

Welcome Luncheon

Girls Night Out!

We had GNO last week at Cocina Superior. I think we had 25 women there and it was such a great time! And Adair says it best, "It was yummy and, of course, the company was excellent!!! I love these girls and I am so grateful for the lifelong friendships that have been formed during our short time here in Bham!"

Jazz on the Porch

We got together a couple of weeks ago to join in on a Birmingham tradition. Historic Rucker's Place, which is an old antebellum home, hosts for 3 months out of the summer an event called "Jazz on the Porch" on the 1st Thursday of the month. We had a great time enjoying the "old south" flair, with watermelon, a few selections of southern classic cuisine prepared up by Chef Richard Bishop, and cocktails, while listening to a great jazz band. It took you right back to those "old south" days on the porch. We had a great time catching up, laughing and making new friends!

Cow Appreciation Day

What is JCRMA?

JCRMA stands for Jefferson County Residents' Medical Alliance. What on earth is that? We are a group of diverse women (mostly residents' wives) that form a volunteer organization seeking to build healthy communities, secure adequate medical legislation, and support the family of medicine. We are made up of more than 50 members ranging from teachers, female residents, dentists, accountants, stay-at-home-moms, administrative assistants, and much more.

Our main goal is to provide support for each other during this unique time in our lives, while our husbands are in residency or fellowship. Many of us don't have family here to lean on and this group provides loving and caring friendships that will last a lifetime.

Each month we have various events that are sure to fit your needs and lifestyle. We play bunco (not very seriously), have girls night out (go out to dinner, the movies, do Painted By U pottery, Sips-N-Strokes, Jazz on the Porch, etc) , baby/mom play groups, toddlers/mom play groups, whole family events (pool parties, bbq's, chili cook-offs, etc.), and volunteer at various charity events.

We had a super fun Mom and Tots at the Moseleys' house on Saturday. We broke out the baby pool, a slip-n-side and a sprinkler. It was a perfect summer play date.

Then we did hooked up the slip-n-slide. The boys didn't fully get the gist of running and jumping, but they still thought it was really fun. And by the way, I (Laura Leigh) was the one who demonstrated how to run and jump on the slide. I'm glad no one caught that on camera!

Jenny's Light Golf Tournament

This past weekend we volunteered at the 2nd Annual Jenny's Light Golf Tournament at Highland Park golf course. We helped by selling drink tickets and setting up for the luncheon. It was a great day on the course and thanks to all who volunteered!

The mission of Jenny's Light is to improve and save lives by increasing awareness of all perinatal mood disorders including postpartum depression. Please check out Jenny's Light website for more on this organization.

On Saturday morning we gathered together at Ashley Spann's house for a yummy brunch. We had excellent food, fellowship, and talked about the upcoming year. We had a wonderful spread of fruit, muffins, breakfast casseroles, hash brown casserole, cinnamon rolls, and coffee cake. Needless to say we were all stuffed by the time we left!

Also, Saturday night UAB had their annual "Spring Party" for the Internal Medicine department. They said "good-bye" to the graduating third years, handed out awards, played hilarious video skits, served a delicious dinner and a DJ and dancing ended the night.

We had an Easter Egg Hunt for Moms and Tots this month. We dodged the occasional rain shower, but had a blast.

Robin hosted the Oh Baby! playgroup for the month of March. Oh Baby is for our smallest members, 0-18 months. Robin had a great play area with toys ready for the little ones. "Holiday" Party!!!

Every year JCRMA has a Holiday Party for members and spouses. We originally had it scheuled for December, but with all the other holiday parties going on, we decided to postpone it until January. Last night Brian and Sarah hosted our party and we had a great turn out. The food was catered by Taziki's and it was delicious. Like always, the ladies had a great time socializing. Also, then men were able to talk and catch up with one another (they rarely have time to socialize!).

Pray for Harper!

If you read my blog, I'm sure you have already read about this family. I have added a button to the side of our page to remind us to pray for the Stamps family. I do not even know this family, but I have been reading Kelly's blog for quite some time now for recipes and fun craft ideas. She is truly an inspiration with her incredible amount of faith and perseverance. Kelly and her husband tried for over 2 years to concieve thier precious baby Harper. She was born on Jan. 16th. She was born with viral pneumonia and heart issues. Harper has been on 100% oxygen up until yesterday when she miraculously turned the corner and is now on only 57% oxygen. Please lift this family up in your prayers- God is going to do great things for them! Tonight we had fun at GNO! We met at Iguana Grill in Hoover for a delicious Mexican dinner. There was lots of wonderful girl talk that kept us rolling all night! We shared some pretty funny stories and text messages... It's great to have a night to be with the girls and sit back and relax!

Pajama Bunco!

Wednesday night we had Pajama Bunco at Brandi's house! However, we really didn't play bunco...we played "Scene It-Movie," which was a lot of fun. Brandi cooked a wonderful dinner! She made a delicious spaghetti casserole, put together an awesome spinach salad, and baked some tasty garlic bread. Adair made an awesome onion dip for an appetizer and Areta brought homemade cookies! One thing is for sure...when we get together we know how to eat, laugh, and relax! We had a great time with a good turnout of 12 people. We also collected "Suits for Success" that night. We collected around 50 items as a group to donate!

We had our monthly "Oh Baby!" gathering at Leah's house on Tuesday. There were 6 little ones there! We had snacks, played together, and had wonderful conversations. You really learn a lot from other moms that have "been there, done that."

Our group is open to anyone that is pregnant and infants up to 18 months old. Our group is really growing this year. We currently have AT LEAST 10 ladies that are pregnant in the group...so the playgroups will be much larger next year! We love all of these beautiful babies. They are such a blessing to each of us!
